Norfolk status Widespread. Very early species, has even been recorded in late December! Open woodland areas, scrub and hedgerows. Females are almost wingless.
The male moths can be spotted with a torch, usually clinging to the tips of outer branches of Hawthorn or Blackthorn hedgerows in January and February.
